I went to see a 2.0D V50 in Sport trim at the weekend. Ticked all my boxes for practicality and I dont think it looked too bad. Just wondered if there are any major pitfalls or things I should be checking when I go back?

I had a D5 V50 R Design for 2 years. A little cramped, but very comfortable. Even though mine was top of the range, I was surprised I had no trip computer! Not the most competent around the twisties and a fair amount of torque steer but that may be d5 specific.

i think they look good with all the kit and mine went very well indeed (with a tuning box) and I was quite sad to hand her back to the finance company. Would I have another? probably not as I like to change to something completely different (2001 BMW 7 series in my case).

I think they have the suspension set-up well- not too rock hard and not too soft. Hope this helps somehow smile

I have the 1.8 SE (MY05). The interior is excelsior, sound system is brilliant and its quite a nice looking car. I drove this from Cambridge to Switzerland and it was a breeze thanks to the comfort.
On the negative end, the 2005 V50 has so far needed;

New clutch - £1,300
New engine (following big end failure) - £1,700 recon
Wishbone, Bushes, Ignition... - c£750

and I am now expecting to have to replace the drive shaft soon. The thing to remember is that Volvo made very reliable cars, and then Ford bought them...

Yes, the sound system was fantastic- not quite a BOSE or a Hamon Kardon but not too far off.

Mine was 100% reliable but it was a 58 plate car with about 24k miles

I have the V50 RDesign 20D. Looks good, very comfy/relaxing, quick enough for basic mode of transport. Boot is not huge for a tourer, engine a bit coarse although punchyish, have gone through a few wheel bearings/ball joints although I think it's pothole related and dealer not rectifying bent pick up or similar so no fault of the car. All told I like it!

Am I right in thinking this is built on the same chasis as the focus? Both great cars either way. It's a really comfortable motor and the D5 oil burner engine is good... if you don't mind Shell-ing out on petrol, the T5 is an awesome car!

Had my 54 plate 2.4i about 3 months so cant comment on reliability although I did have the dealer change a wheel bearing which seems a fairly common problem.

ITs the SE so has comfy leather leather seats with plenty of adjustment, ride is good premium sound stereo is excellent, and I think it is a good looking car that is a little different.

Worst thing for me is the lack of cabin storage, as in virtually none! The door pocket can only fit my sunglasses case in, but I guess this is the trade off for the SIPS safety stuff? Maybe I should have the T5 but the car is plenty quick enough- quiet and refined at low revs but with the lovely 5 pot growl when you press on.
