I make no apologies. Just been thumbing through a few mags in 'Smiths waiting for my train.

After skimming the usual publications I for some reason picked up a Kit Car mag. Utterly utterly embarrassing. On so many levels.

Q plates abound. But it gets much much worse. Mk3 MR2 being converted to a Modena. Perhaps the most cringe worthy was the
moulded "fake" engine panel that has prominent MAF's and the red intakes etc. What is the point of this motorised vomit? I simply
cannot get my head round someone that wants to convert a Toyota into a Ferrari.

Then there's the stand alone machines. Well almost. Witness the KTM X Bow themed rep which is utterly laughable in its proportions.

In my books if you can’t have a 120k Ferrari then have an Alfa. I know one mans meat etc but sorry lets do us all a favour and ban these awful snides for good!

(Not to mention if they're actually built right… )

Have you ever seen one of the MR2 360 conversions up close now that is the true definition of utterly embarrassing.

What's your beef with Q Plates?

By virtue of having a Q plate, a car is too far changed from it's original status to be registered as the donor car - ie. it has too many bespoke parts or parts from other cars.

Non Q-platers tend to be (mainly) single donor vehicles, such as the MR2 Ferraris - which kind of makes a mockery of your argument...

I won't budge on this. They are criminal. Kit cars are the David Brent of motoring.

I'm obv not talking Lynx but the ill fitting plastic toilet that ends up in council estates front gardens amongst rusty fridges and twisted kiddy swings.

Yes, some kit cars are embarrassing but I saw a brand new Audi convertible the other day with just rubber smeared on to the rims instead of tyres and that was embarrassing too.

Q plates are there because the car has been made from many older but perfectly serviceable parts. Yes, the owner could buy all new bits and get a dating plate but that would cost a small fortune.

Let people have their dreams.

My pal once had a TR7 that morphed into an F40. Scrapped it as he couldn't sell it.

But I utterly concede there's plenty of Barry out there too..

I thought to Q plate was given when the parts come from all over the place. If you use enough old parts from one donor you get a registration relating to the age of the donor vehicle. Or has this changed?

Sir, with respect I can either ask you to refrain from fuelling the argument after every post (your point has been made quite clearly), or maybe I should move this to the Kit Car forum to continue the debate there?

I'm not saying that we don't allow free-speech on PH, but I am a little suspicious that a new member seems intent to put the cat amongst the pigeons so to speak.

Maybe I'm just not quite understanding your motives?
