My wife and I are driving to Cologne and we can either drive from Calais (4.5 hours drive) or from Hook of Holland (3 hours drive).

Of course the ferry is a 7 hour journey, so we'd get a cabin and it works out much much more than getting the tunnel. Is it worth it, or just the same as the Dover-Calais ferries?

Is the drive any more interesting through Holland, or is it something to be avoided?

I always used to go via the HoH ferry to Germany, overnight cabin, jobs a good 'un, but the drive down is pretty boring.

More interesting is tunnel, Brussels, Liege, Koln, but it is a bit further driving wise.
