Ted,

I see that the forum on bad dealers has been closed. Whilst I fully understand your position on the legal implications of naming dealers on here, do you not think that other people have a right to know of the bad service they have been given. As far as I can see, no one actually named this ex dealer.

My own situation is not that I am accussing them of 'ringing' cars, but that the car I bought from them had been ringed. There is a difference.

It would appear from the posts that I am not the only person to have been badly treated by this particular dealer.

I would have thought that this type of 'free speech' can only be helpful to the community at large and should not be stiffled, providing that the dealers are not actually named.

mmm

The trouble is the dealers ( some of who are very good some alledgedly not quite so good )

a) have more money that ted
b) give ted money in terms of advertising revenue

so if there are to many this dealer is 5hit threads

a) the dealers will sue ted and before it gets to court ted will be bankrupt and no more pistonheads.com

b)the dealers will stop advertising, ted will be bankrupt and no more pistonheads.com

simple equation nothing to stop you registering

thistvrdealerisarobbingbastard.com and putting it all on there though good luck

actually i think Ted is quite fair he'll let a thread run so far but when it get very obvious who its about and there are lots of claims flying about He'll stop it in order to protect himself...
That must take a lot of his valuable time so just think about it...

cheers Graham

Maybe this could be approached from the other end, by having a table of garages that people thoroughly reccomend, rather than shooting down the bad ones.

Oh come on. So if I wasn't allowed to mention "PistonHeads" and decided to instead refer to "a car related website whose name involves the contents of engine cylinders and the part of the body onto which eyes, ears, nose and mouth are attached" then that would be ok would it? Enough information was given that it was obvious who the dealer was.

At the end of the day, its Ted's site, its his neck on the block legally, and we play by his rules if we want to use PistonHeads.

End of story.

Ian, up to now you have stated that your car 'appears' to have been ringed. Now you say it had been ringed. Have you conclusive proof of this? I knew of a 280i that was involved in a serious smash back in 1986 and a reputable TVR repairer bought the salvage and rebuilt it to 390SE spec, retaining the 280i registration and documents. A reputable expert on Wedges (and I'm NOT one) would be able to tell you if it's a modified earlier car or a real 400SE on false documents.

Maybe a valid point, but you confirmed the name of the dealer involved in your posting of Dec 2nd.

I started the thread that was stopped and I have to say fair play Ted - my whinge was dealers that don't e-mail you back when they state e-mail us on their websites. The thread got high-jacked into a slag dealer off in general theme

Ted's site, Ted's rules, the phrase like it or feck off appears to be valid. Though i like the idea of a JD powers type page, listing the good dealers, others not on the list might make more of an effort in order to get on, esp. if it means they get more money as word of mouth is better than any form of advertising !!

Would be very handy to have a list of highly recommended dealers for all makes, Porsche etc.

Which is what actually happens on an informal basis. Having been on here for a few years now I notice when dealers local to me get a good or bad mention, common sense really. I can say that without doubt Fernhurst, Thames Valley Racetech, Tower View Race Services, TMS and a few others get constant good reviews. Draw your own conclusions from there. Rich...

This issue has been discussed many times previously and whilst it is a public forum with minimal censorship and moderation Ted is very clear on what is seen as crossing the line.

Banter and constructive debates are very welcomed but when negative comments / personal attacks are made against people or dealers this puts PistonHeads in a dodgy position.

Even if the dealer is one that does not advertise on PH it can have a negative effect on the ones that do as they may feel that they could be next.

In this instance it was fairly clear who the dealer was from the 'clues given' and therefore the thread was edited and locked.

As to the view that we should have a recommended dealer thread, this happens more or less anyway and there are always poeple willing to provide feedback to a particular question you may have. Generally you will always find that any dealer will have some supporters and some knockers amongst the readership - that's just down to individual experiences. The better ones should be obvious to anyone who has been a member for a while.

Of course, one of you could set up a 'dealer rating' site where we could freely post - just check with you lawyer first.

I have to say that this is one of the best forums I've seen for freedom of posts combined with intelligent debate and expertise, so lets not screw it up.

Cheers,
JSG.

Ok, so I am a little guilty here - I did contribute to the fires before. But if this causes Ted some problems then why not use the email facility. We can email each other via the website to exchange our addresses, and then keep them separate from Ted so he doesnt get into trouble....

Oh, and it is not an infringement of free speach - we havent been banned from saying it at all - just not here, but that is Teds right / opinion as he runs it. We are still at liberty to put up our own website and post all of the relevant details we like.....

Cheers,

Paul

I just want to say thankyou for the positive feedback that came from my posting, in that I may keep my TVR now that I feel there is help out there that won't bankrupt me!! Sorry for being the start of such a violent dispute!! Lets keep the site threatening info in our emails off line~! this site is too valuable to lose . Anyone got an estimate of what it actually costs to maintain a TVR Chimeara annually on average, given that the car is 1997 5.0?????
Thanks again
