St170 to Mk2 Focus RS
Discussion
Hi Everyone,
As the title suggests really, I'm very close to chopping in my ST170 for a pre registered but otherwise new RS.
Just wanted to see with people on here who use their RS's on a daily basis how they've found it to live with?
What sort of combined MPG are you guys getting? I want to know the figures for not only spirited driving but also adding in when you're on a motorway cruise and just driving around in traffic at normal speeds etc. I'm kind of expecting high 20's, would this be about right?
Thanks for your help with this!

You're about right with the MPG figures, spirited driving can get down to the teens, 30 mpg is possible on a run, my average is 27mpg.As the title suggests really, I'm very close to chopping in my ST170 for a pre registered but otherwise new RS.

The only thing with the RS is the awful turning circle that makes multi-storey carparks a nightmare! You will be very lucky to not curb at least 1 alloy!
Oh & make sure you get the tracking checked on a 4 wheel alignment as a LOT have not been set up properly, resulting in inside tyre wear & some having to change front tyres at 4000 miles! At around £180 per tyre for the Continentals, not cheap!
Apart from that, you will LOVE it!

I do quite a few miles...now about 26000 in 15 months. My overall consumption is 28.8mpg. Most of my mileage is sat on the A14 where I travel perhaps slightly above the limit when clear, but generally with the flow, neither belting it or crawling along. On A roads I travel in much the same way. I do drive smoothly though and do not tend to gun it very often (to do so will loose your liscence very quickly and may end in tears if you get it wrong), but I am not an Angel and do have a bit of fun when its very quite. Tyres seem to last about 15-18K but again thats because most of my miles are cruisin...I did just have to have some Toyo`s replaced at 15K though becuase as it turned out the tracking was out (...I told the dealer it when I first got the car but they assurred me it was ok. The tyre fitters went to the dealer, who as it turned out did not have the settings, but they did eventually find them in the Ford system!). I now have some Faulkens up front at £150-00 a pop fitted and they seem at least as good as the Toyo`s at the moment. Servicing is approx £260-00 every 12500 miles. The only shocker is the front brake pads at £250-00 from Ford, but you can get them done for a bout £100-00 less.
If you drive it sensibly on your daily commute, then you will not get anything with as much performance/character/practicality/or economy at any money....and for £400-00 Graham Goodes will alter the ECU settings to get you just about as much grunt as the RS500, which is plenty for a road car...oh yes, and its pretty descent round a track too, which is included in my economy and tyre wear.

I did the same thing last July. Goodbye to the ST170 and hello to the Mk2 RS

The RS is obviously a fantastic car and beats the ST170 in almost every department (miss the heated leather recaros though).
MPG figures for mixed driving is about 25mpg. I recently did Falkirk to Aberdeen with an average of 32.7mpg but that was being very carefull on the brakes and the throttle.
The other main difference is the size between the two of them. Most car park spaces are a squeeze due to the flared arches and living with the fear that some spacca will smash a door into the side of it is a pain.

Thanks to all of you for some really helpful replies. It's exactly the sort of information I was after!
I've essentially agreed a trade in value for my car with the dealer so it's just a case of picking the car in the right spec (they have a few). I'm thinking blue with black trim and both the lux packs fitted.
Really looking forward to taking ownership of an RS, wierdly when I first saw one I wasn't sure about the styling but since having a drive of one I'm really taken with the whole package! For the money nothing else seems to get close to the mixture of performance and practicality.
Thanks again!
