I don't have a microwave at work and am getting bored of sandwiches or resorting to Pot Noodles to break it up a little bit. Does anybody have any suggestions on cold lunches for work that are relatively easy to knock up of a morning?

Thanks
Mike

If I take in a cold lunch, it's a packet of savoury biscuits or crackers, some ham, chorizo, sliced meat etc. Far prefer that to sarnies.

And cake, lunch isn't right without cake.

Make a large batch of cous cous with chicken, veg, fresh herbs and spices - it'll last three or four days in the fridge and goes well with a dollop of natural yoghurt or some chilli sauce

kisir. its a gorgeous turkish dish. surprisingly filling. I suppose you could eat this with some cold meats, like pastry or pie or whatever

This I think.

You can add anything to it. My favourites include:

- frazzled chorizo
- roasted peppers
- grilled tomatoes
- roasted onions / garlic
- roasted squash / sweet potatoes
- preserved lemons
- chick peas
- chopped flat-leaved parsley
- fresh mint
- fresh coriander
- chopped chillies
- meatballs
- falafel
- chopped dates
- chopped dried apricots
- toasted pine nuts
- toasted almonds
- sultanas
- a waft of cinnamon
- harissa sauce
- pomegranate seeds
- hoummous...

You could do something similar with various pasta - just add various ingredients in the morning.

Ploughmans Lunch?

Few slices of mature cheese, pickle, pickled onions and a crusty bread with butter, oh, and even a pork pie too?

I kept nice oils (various infusions) & balsamic in my desk drawer. Used to stop off on the way to work to pick up fresh bread rolls. That with a nice cup of tea kept me going and was certainly simple.
Sometimes I brought in cheese, cold meats, smoked fish if there was in the fridge but more often than not it was just a couple of little ciabatta's or similar.

(Only problem was the smell of fresh bread made me hungry so only about half of it actually made it into work)

Pot noodle to break it up for a bit?

I'd recommend we burn you on the fire so you go to hell for all eternity, but considering you don't want to do that -

1 x maple syrup
Some sliced apples
Some creme freche
Some brown sugar

No more words needed, and a nice pudding for your Pot Noodle.

I'm sort of thinking the jump from a Pot Noodle to that might be something Bob Beamon might think twice about.

Quickest and easiest is to boil and chill a batch of pasta on a Sunday afternoon which you can keep in a box in the fridge all week. Then just buy two or three jars of pasta sauces or pestos and keep in the fridge at work.

Each morning fill a lunch box with cold pasta and add the sauce at work so it doesn't get soggy. Add salad, tuna, olives, feta cheese etc at home as you feel like it.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

By the way, a pot noodle once in a while never hurt anybody did it wink
