I'm planning a road trip with 5 other cars for the end of May. The plan is to start wednesday 2pm at Calais then make our way to nice for Friday late afternoon. Any recommendations for good roads and some good places to stay would be really appreciated. We'll be taking just under 3 days to drive down so should be able to take in some great routes, but the trip back will be just 2 days so we'll probably have to use motorways for that.
Thanks in advance!

Route Napoleon is pretty damn good. You should be able to pick it up around Grenoble and then run into the Riviera whichever way you fancy.

Also the old racetrack at Reims is a good visit to get some pictures of your car and have a nose around.

+1 for Route Napoleon. You wouldn't miss too much though if you didn't pick it up until Gap, IMO.

The D996 from Reims to Dijon is a great road and then obviously The Route Napoleon is must do. Hopefully in May there shouldn't be too many caravans either!!

Last year Calais to Monaco was the first part of our Euro Road trip and we stayed at Hotel Charles Quint in Besancon for our first night:-

and then Splendid Hotel in Annecy for our second:-

Would recommend both of them.

Stay on the motorways until Reims, the A roads between Calais and Reims are boring and slow.
