I have a Tom Tom for the USA and bought the UK map. It worked fine in the UK when I visited. I'd think it highly likely that you could buy the US map and your unit would work perfectly.

My Garmin works fine in the US, don't see why a tom tom wouldn't be the same.

If all else fails you can pick them up from Walmart cheap enough.

I bought our tomtom 950 with the US map in July with the intention to use in Calafornia and Arizona, and I'm pleased to say it worked perfectly, in fact it worked better out in the US than it does here! The only bad thing is that th HD traffic does not work so we did get stuck in LA traffic on a couple of occasions!

Just to add that in Calafornia you are supposed to put your satnav in the bottom left of the screen and not the middle or by the rear view mirror.

I just bought a Tomtom XL in a Bet Buy out here for $100. Less than buying the map here, and guaranteed to work correctly.
