Can anyone advise of the diffreance in the real world (80% town driving) with the MPG with these cars.

If both are automatic, I think you will find the difference neglible, from what I read. But both will be thirsty!

For more spirited driving the 4.4 is actually more economical!

Agreed, the 3.0 straight six has to work much harder than the V8 to haul that 2.5 tonne chassis about.
