Hi all,

me and the mrs are off to Sydney for a couple of weeks. Aside from some surfing around Manly I don't have any ideas as to what to do/see/visit. I think we're going to do the bridge climb but that's about it.
Love to have any good suggestions!

thanks

Hi

I spent a couple of weeks in Sydney last year, really enjoyed it.

Definitely do the bridge climb.

There are various ferrys you can take to attractions around the harbour, I think there is a transport ticket you can buy which covers ferrys and the train around Sydney for a week for around $40

Also worth checking out the vineyards in the Hunter Valley.

Remember, there's no culture in Australia - so it's purely about seeing sights smile

Where to start! I just sent my uncle over to Sydney with the following list of some things to do.

Manly - surfing, decent beach. Take the ferry along the harbour to get there.
Ferry to Watsons Bay - good fish and chips overlooking the harbour. Walk over to Gap Bluff too, good views of the ocean.
Taronga Zoo - walk from here too, good views of the harbour.
Take a train to Waterfall station from Central Station - good hiking.
Walk from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach.
Bridge Climb.
Stroll round the Rocks and eat at Pancakes on the Rocks. Drinks at one of the pubs down there.
Get out to the Hunter Valley wine region and also the Blue Mountains - easy day trips.
Harry's Cafe De Wheels - world famous pie/burger truck near the Naval Base in Woolloomooloo (www.harryscafedewheels.com.au)
Sydney Tower - decent views.
Powerboat or Helicoptor along the harbour. Costs a few quid, but great fun!
Watch something at the Opera House or at least take a guided tour. Very interesting place.
If you want to see nice cars, there are Ferrari and various exotic dealers on William Street. Also Double Bay and Rose Bay are nice for decent motors on the roads and a coffee/expensive clothes!

I lived there for a year and love the city so any questions, fire away thumbup

Cool thanks for the suggestions.
We're actually staying in Manly in a rented house, so will be catching the ferry in and out anyhow.

What area is best for food and drink in the evening?

For drinking I'd say George Street, around Central Station. Darling Harbour is nice too or Oxford Street. Kings Cross is fun in a slightly scary kind of way. There are also a few nice drinking places in Manly itself.

The ferry into downtown Sydney is very easy indeed from Manly smile

I lived there for a year a long while ago - and that would be my list, too!

It did take a few days to come up with that one for my uncle when he asked me two weeks ago, but it was all fresh in my memory for this thread hehe

This, there is a park over by the blue mountains that you are virtually garunteed to see wild kangaroos. It's dead easy to find, but I can't remember its name.

All I can remember is that it was at a small "park" in the blue mountains IIRC it was the first one you come to, It had camping facilities etc. and was close to Sydney, Megalong park rings a bell.

In the city try the Australian Hotel in The Rocks for their great beer selection and gourmet pizza. However if you are Manly there are some great places there to, I'm especially a fan of the Manly Wharf Hotel.

Check out the Bondi Iceberg, it is actually an RSL club with amazing veiws over Bondi, great food and a good pint at good prices.

Also the Botannical Gardens in the city center is a must. Loads of flying foxes and a stones throw from the Opera House.

Well hire a car, decent one, and since Blue mountains have been mentioned, you could drive south past the airport to the national park and go for a picnic or surf at Garie, the national park is huge and very wild even though it's very close to the city well worth a look, it's where the south of Sydney does "bush".
After that drive to Stanwell after stopping to watch the hang-gliders at Stanwell tops, take lawrence Hargreve dr to Scarbourgh and have a pie and pint in the pub before heading off home via the Bulli Pass. Doesn't sound much but the scenery is fantastic. If there are waves and you are into surfing there are loads of nice breaks along this stretch of road, say hi to my old place at Wombarra on the way past...

Want to go further afield on the south coast?
Kiama is a cute little town and has an amazing waterspout on its beach if the waves are big. Avoid Woolongong like the plague.
