So Dad has put his Alfa Spyder up for sale now. looking to get something with less problems. We probably have a £1.5k budget to use. It has to be convertible!

What would everyone suggest.

Ideas please...

We have discussed,

TVR,
MX-5,
MG TF,
Lotus so far.

MG-TF - I'm biased but they're brilliant for the money smile

You should get a yellow one...

Can't believe I'm going to go for a typical PH response here, but if he wants something more reliable than the Alfa then it would have to be the MX5....or maybe an E30 325i cab?

I know, but you I can't deny the reliability of these things and they're supposed to be great to drive!....I did chuck in the much better option on an E30 325i cab though; that's if you can find one that hasn't rusted to bits!

Buy an MX5. For the money you really can't go wrong, and it'll be suitable for fun on trackdays too. Cheap to repair and run.

Plus you and your dad will look like Elton John and David Furnish in it.

Ironically though, the two people I know well who have bought MX-5's both failed their MOT's with terminal rust, so I'd check it over carefully tongue out

(One of them was a Eunos import so I guess wasn't undersealed, but the other was a genuine UK car on a 99/V plate??)

What about a Micra CC? I recon you'd cut quite a dash around the local shipping facilities in that tongue out

I rest easy in the knowledge that my car will only rust where I can't see it. And if I can't see it, it's not real.
