I've bought a Navigon GPS System, which quite apart from being the most unintuitive thing I've used in years, has a display that is not bright enough for me to see most of the time when the roof is down.

Has anyone got any suggestions of a portable GPS that has got a nice bright screen? I'm thinking maybe something like a Tomtom Rider designed for bikes might be better, but would welcome any advice!

Thanks

Chris

I've used TomTom ONE ONE XL and GO550's in my convertibles with no real problems.
It maybe worth knocking up something like the "hood" the Rider comes with.

Garmin nüvi660 works fine in my SLK32 AMG with the display brightness set to 100% - but I usually leave the sound muted.

Bit chavvy, but yes. I knocked something up using a bit of old inner tube for my Garmin when I had the same problem in the Z4.

+1
I also mount it on a base mat rather than on the screen.

I use a Garmin 'automotive' base mount - can't stand those windscreen sucker things:

I used a Tomtom xl in my last Mustang vert with a Proclip mount. That way its securely on the dash rather than the windscreen and you can angle in down slightly. Never any problem in the strong Spanish sunlight and a more elegant solution/appearance to boot.

Garmin 3790T - It's bright enough in the lowest setting with night colours for daytime use - with or without the roof.
