Recommendations of aftermarket cat1 alarms?

I have been looking at the Clifford concept 500 and 600 system, have any of you guys had these systems fitted and where they any problems after or would you recommend them.

I was interested in this system as it comes with the car jacking protection that lets a car jacker take your car, then shuts down engine within a safe distance and sounds alarm. It also has top of the range radar sensors which I though would help been a convertible?

Any comments on this system or any others you would recommend / steer clear from.

I have a Concept 500 fitted to a 94 Chimaera.
The alarm is great, I do not worry about leaving the car anywhere (although it also gets used everyday, so don't worry about it getting wet or dirty either ).
The only things that are a bit of a pain in the ass are:
- My central locking is only single phase, ie pulse to lock, pulse to unlock, so if the alarm passive arms, when you disarm the Clifford it locks the doors (although I now have a technique to re-sync them).
- The exterior proximity warning is great, but you have a TVR, and lots of people like to gaze through the window, and they jump pretty high when it 'shouts' at them. It is funny the first few times, but a Back Home last year there were a few people starting to look upset.
- I have yet to meet a TVR dealer who understands how they work, despite numerous lessons when dropping the car off, also expect calls saying they have locked your keys in if you activate the lock on passive arm feature

When I buy my next TVR, I will have another Clifford fitted to it.

Do you get any false alarms late at night? (I am trying to keep the neighbours happy, as the exhaust is enough)

I think a Clifford 500 is about £500.

some of the cliffords are not thatcham approved, this particularly applies to their more expensive systems!! Be warned..

I put a Clifford Concept 50 on one of my cars last year and it was a heap of sh*te. The thing kept on going off (even when fitted by a very good company and re set 3/4 times).

To the suppliers credit they reccomended meta as the better make (and significantly cheaper) but i went for the 'brand' and the carbon fibre key fob!

I had a alarm put on my new car last week and went straight for a Meta at the main specialists in Reading. When i told him i had probs with my last alarm he said 'it was probably a clifford...', seems they are fairly well known for probs

yup as bennno said the very top of the range Clifford AGuard 4 has not yet been classified cat1 but the concept 400, 500, and 600 are.

500 is £480 fitted with additional jacking sensor the 600 is £599 fitted.

I had a concept 50 too. Had no problems as such, but the microwave sensor had to be wound down really low to avoid false alarming (is this cos it was in a fibreglass car ??). In the end it was set so low you had to wave your hand over the sensor to get the thing to go off.

Wouldn't recommend one, particularly as you pay over the odds. They have lots of nice optional toys though.
