If it is a reputable dealer then you should be okay. There will be a £25 charge to get a new V5 if you don't have any part of the old one.

This is often done when the old V5 has been lost by a lease company or more often when the car has been repossessed by a finance company and therefore they can't get the V5 easily.

No Its not. Traders just fill in a small sectionn(red) of the V5 and sent it off to let the DVLA know that the private owner no longer owns it and a trader has bought it to retail.
