On some cars real wood really works well and looks great (lighter woods in big-ass AMGs, for example), whereas in some it looks like the worst kind of awfulness.

I prefer my leather without wood. I have carbon fibre (effect) instead. Probably just as tacky.

Isn't "real" wood mostly just plastic, due to the fact that proper wood splinters in a bad crash?

Also, I've never really understood the vagueness around the precise meaning of "leather" vs "leatherette".

Today I have none. In the right car I love it, but I no longer have such a vehicle.

Part of the boot floor of the Caterham is made of plywood, but I don't think that's what you're getting at

Along the grain, the better woods are some of the strongest substances per unit weight, known.
