I had a rather amusing call from a really nice young lady at Norton Insurance Brokers this morning (classic car experts). Apparantly the insurers want more information on the "performance upgrade" I had done last year. I went through it all with them last year so having to do it again was a bit anoying. The first question about whether the work on the head was stage 1,2,3 or 4 was fair enough I suppose but then they wanted to know what "sundries" were and what impact they had on performance! Then they wanted to know what a "polished and ported head" is. I tried to explain but the poor girl didn't know what a port was so it was pointless. She will now convey this informaton to a no doubt equally ill informed person at the insurance company (Chaucer, also (classic car experts) who will no doubt take the easy way out and ramp up the premium.

Can anyone recommend an insurance company who actualy understands the cars they offer to insure?

And the really amusing bit ? The dam thing is slower after the upgrade than it was before!!!!!! It was done by a reputable firm so I'm hopeful this will be sorted in time for the spring.

I'm insured with the same folks. Although the chap I spoke to when I insured with them was quite knowledgeable and helpful, the service since then has been a bit of a joke. Unless they are very cheap come renewal I'll be going elsewhere.

Having said that, the wide boy at a certain "well known" specialist broker must have just moved on from selling watches and nylons from inside his jacket judging by his selling approach wink

Just had a quote from Adrian Flux inviting me back, I was never with them, so I gave the details. They came back £200 more than I'm paying now with Heritage.

Carole nash have been ok, and competitive for me, but the true proof of an insurance contract is only when you have to test its worth in an accident and so far (bar front indicator lenses) I've been lucky!!

Are you guys with Carole Nash insuring S's? When I asked them for a quote they told me straight off they didn't believe they'd be competitive for post 1980 TVR's so I didn't go through the quote process.

My bikes and 3000M are all insured with them and always been very happy with them. Haven't had to claim though!

Like Barry S1 I'm old, the S2 is insured by KGM Motor Insurance Classic 3000 miles per year under £130 fully comp windscreen cover up to £500. If you are interested they are on 02085307351.

Oliver was the guy I spoke to when I got my insurance with them. He did know his stuff. Maybe I'm not old enough (44) but cost me nearly £500. Didn't have any NCB I could use on it though.

I'm 40 and its an S2 in london and its sub 200 with carole nash. First year I was with them it was 110 but now been nudged up to 160. As I said - its not always the chepaest that's best, and
I have never had to test the policy in any way. Performance direct might be worth a go - ask for Damian Collett.

Gadge S3C (Gary) I am 40 no no claims on the S as its in use on my daily drive. Still under £200 on low mileage policy, has track day cover not that I will use plus Euro cover. £500 seems a bit steep. Are you high risk?

Hi, well it seems so according to my insurers! Nope, no points (ever). Bike and car licences (bike advanced too). Max NCB on other car & bike policies. One claim in as long as I can recall and that was a French chap driving into the back of my MX5 on the way to Le Mans last year (made £40 difference according to broker- because it hadn't been resolved yet). 3000 mile policy, Eu cover, not sure about track days, social use only, must be garaged overnight. Don't live in a high risk area (group C). Only mods to car are de-catted, bigger front brakes & later wheels fitted. I'd assumed it was not having NCB to use. Did ring half a dozen brokers (all specialists), maybe just not the right ones, will try harder next year.

Ironically same outfit would have insured my 3000M for £128 - didn't need to be garaged, could use it for work, same mileage etc.

Beats me!

MMm very bizarre as what you say is similar to me. Did haggle a bit against previous renewal with another company (Sureterm) who were alo competitive. As you say push a bit harder next year.
