Something very odd's going on round the corner from where I live.

The road was pretty badly potholed over the last few winters and was a total mess, a real suspension-killer.

Anyway, contractors working for the local council have been removing the surface of this road, and replacing it, making it smooth.

This seems like very out-of-character behaviour for a local council. What could possibly be wrong? Or am I seeing things?

Don't worry they've started it, but it won't be finished for about 7 weeks.

Post a reply and click on the 'Upload an Image' link just above the text box.

They'll almost finish it in a few weeks, leaving it ready for all the utility and service companies to dig up again.

Don't worry, in a month or two, a utility company will come along, cone off most of the road to dig a small trench, leave it open and filling with rubbish and water for three months then badly patch it, just in time for next winter's frost to make it slowly crumble round the edges...

Probably true - council department most likely trying to blow its budget before the end of the fiinancial year on 5th April. If they don't spend all the budget then they fear they'll get less budget next year.

Many moons ago I went to visit a customer (government sector) and they were having a "we've spent our budget party!" just before financial year end. rolleyes Lots and lots of free booze there - got the train home. beer

Eggzackery! Council couldn't give a fk about the state of the roads, UNTIL they need to spend this year's budget...

The roads in Gloucester are crap with no sign of the pot-holes being repaired. However the Council have somehow found the money to replace a major set of traffic lights by where i live for no apparent reason.

There is nothing wrong with those already in place so i guess that the Council are simply using up what money is left in the current budget to ensure that they use up all of their budget.

Oh yeah - there is also a burst water main leaking huge amounts of water & has been leaking since the first week in December last year. Is this being repaired or stopped?

Of course not.

There's a hilariously bad bit of road around the corner from my sisters house. It's a 270 degree turn off a main road, and since the last bout of ice/snow it's completely disintegrated! The first time I did the corner after the thaw I nearly lost it at <10mph because of the loose/broken surface.
