Blackpool fined for fielding weakened team....a team that only just lost to Villa by a late goal!

Sometimes I wonder what the hell is the point! Why do managers/ teams even bother!

Why even have a 25 man squad if the manager can't use it at his discretion!?

How many times this season has Wenger changed his team!? Or Ferguson? Or Ancelotti?

How many times did Benetez get fined for his changes during the previous seasons?

I mean....I've already mentioned it, but Blackpool only JUST lost this game 3-2 to a late winner. For a team that has just come up, and with one of the smallest budgets, you'd say that was actually a good result!

I'm a Chelsea fan, and even I can see this is a ridiculous ruling!

This manager/ team are the BIGGEST breath of fresh air to hit the premiership in a long long time....and we go and reward them by fining them for the most stupid reason possible!

Unbelievable, I really hope Holloway doesn't go but he probably will and I don't blame him. This has pissed me off quite a lot!

He stated categorically that he would definitley QUIT if Blackpool were fined for fielding a 'weakened' team.

Blackpool were fined £25,000 todayfor fielding a 'weakened' team.

Let's see if he puts his money/job where his big mouth was!!!

BTW I agree with him in principle, but not with his threatened action.

I agree his threat was a bit OTT.

Although, I hope he goes through wiht it...and I hope that causes a lot of other managers to back him and threaten the same!

Wishful thinking I know, but it's about time the teams showed the Jobsworths who 'supposedly' run the game just who exactly make the Premier League a success and actually show some support for each other!

Premier League, FA, FIFA, etc.....they are not fit for purpose! They are 'old boys' clubs who each believe in their own self-importance far too much!

Apply this to Government, MP's, MEP's, the Home Office, Political Parties, Councils, Quangos and the treacle mess this country is in will become clearly apparent

As I said when we were fined for the same thing last year. The administration is an absolute joke, run by and for the benefit of the bigger clubs. The whole thing stinks.

Top 4 teams rest players all the time when they play bottom of the table opposition, but who cares if the relegation battle is decided by being lucky enough to play a big team jus before a big champions league/top of the table clash? Well, I've got news, teams at the bottom couldnt care less who wins the title, any more than Fergie or Wenger cares who gets relegated. Teams have a squad and should be free to use them as they see fit, if that means that a top team gets an easy 3 points giving them the title then that's just tough, same as if a relegation rival wins against a weakened top team.

fking joke.

I know nothing about this other than what I've just read on this thread, but my money is on....

1. Very public resignation.
2. Fairly public refusal of chairman to accept resignation.
3. Very public statement agreeing to withdraw resignation because the fans & club are already being made to suffer unfairly, and the chairman has persuaded him not to add to that.

Just watching his November 2010 rant on SKY he has to quit or lose face and all credibility. Don't Gob Off and then don't carry out your threats.

It would be so sad to lose such a charismatic personality such as Ian Holloway, love him or hate him , he has been a breath of fresh air to the premiership this year , Along with his entertaining team , I fear he may well be a man of his words & resign as Blackpool boss,
This would be a real shame as i have so much enjoyed watching blackpool's great up & at em style of football this season .

Fingers crossed he rises above this stupid decision & gets his revenge with another fantastic press conference

we will appeal. They will then change it to a suspended fine, which is the same as Wolves got last year i think.

Next wednesday Ollie should fax his team sheet 75mins before kick off to the PL. Asking for their permission to play that team as soon as possible, as he has to give his team sheet to the ref 60mins before kick off according to PL rules

Well given the way Boro were docked points back in 96 (IIRC) the Premier League have been known to be a joke for a very long time.

The way Boro did not pay their small creditors in the late 90's is not a joke for the people who lost their houses, went bankrupt, suffered marriage break-ups etc and they then had to watch the "new" Boro pay millions pa. to second rate players.

The premier league can't be seen to condone smaller teams fielding heavily weakened outfits against the top teams. It would turn the league into a farce if all the small teams just gave up against the big ones and concentrated on beating each other. This would severely damage the overall product and be potentially detrimental for television revenues.

Fair enough.....if they had beeen heavily defeated..

As it was.....Blackpool lost 3-2 to a last minture goal by Villa.

Hardly a bad representation for a team that just got promoted against a seasoned Premier League team.

And what about Arsenal making 8 changes to one of their teams earlier? That's a weakened team.....or is it just the fact that Arsenal's 'weaker' players are all internationals as well? It's bias towards the Top teams is what it is....and like I said before, I'm a Chelsea fan, so not sour grapes on my part.

And what's the point in having a 'SQUAD' if the manager is not allowed to use all the players? That's just disrepsectful to those players....basically saying you're not as good as the others in the squad. Why even have them then? Who are a bunch of SUITS to tell the manager of a team who his best players are for a match at any given time!?

Is the Premier League going to start telling teams how many changes they are allowed to make to a team week from week? It's ridiculous.

i'm a villa fan but a big team ?? villa?

surely if anything he would've fielded the weakest team going this week against united??

the fact he has gone and beaten teams of the big 5 shows what bullst this is.

its the winter section - fixtures are congested - he can make any changes he likes. even if he was hammered 8-0 by villa - thats his job to make the call and his job on the line.

if anything this is a by-product from BIG clubs fielding st sides against weaker teams - fans would turn out to see giggs, becks and keane play but get a bunch of 2nd string ppl who managed to win a 1-0

It's a terribly grey area and pretty much ungovernable but it is in the rules that you must not field a weakened side. To avoid this kind of confusion and grey areas the only thing they can really do is let teams field whoever they want but they might be getting leant on my media corps not to do this.

Daft thing is the team that played the previous game against Everton, until this season I think only DJ Campbell had previously played in the Premier League and there were 3 current internationals Neil Eardly and David Vaughan for Wales and Charlie Adam for Scotland.

The team that played at Villa actually had Richard Kingson in nets who is the current Ghana keeper, who played in this years World Cup and had a few Premier League appearances for Wigan and Birmingham. Chris Basham who had a few games for Bolton, Dekel Keinan current Israel international with Champions League experience, Australian international player David Carney, Matt Phillips who is an England U21 (or was it U19) player, and then how many Premier League appearances between these 3, Jason Euell, Marlon Harewood and Brett Ormerod.

So its not like we blooded some kids, every player had decent experience.
