What car is worth driving that manages 40+ mpg round town and as a ridiculously low insurance/ tax band?

BMW isetta.?

Free road tax, classic insurance and probably over40mpg.

Job done ..... Although I suspect there maybe some other requirements the OP wants?

Yeah 6'1" and a bit of comfort would be nice. Also need some space to fit a couple of dogs in the back (with seats removed if needed).

Volvo v50 1.6D DRIVe.
From memory quoted upto 72mpg, 104g\mm CO (band b tax). Insurance group 18, on the new insurance scale. Also is pretty large and has a boot for two dogs

Just a thought...

I have had over a tank full... 47mpg from my old MB2 Civic. that was all short journeys with the air con on in the summer. This car is costing me hardly anything to run. £125 tax, £250 fully comp, £237 for a major service and new blower resister, nothing has gone wrong in 9 years. Winner. I've moved house with it twice, so dogs will fit in the back

swmbo as a c1 on order, replacing a mx-5, which got me thinking what might provide a modicum of driving pleasure (enough to warrent its use on a Euro road trip) whilst providing the value of the C1, If these factors can be met then I fancy swapping my vRS estate (petrol costs are getting stooopid) I guess I will find out what the C1 is like in time, just wanted PH'ers take on it smile

A2 TDI, loads of room in the back with the seat out (it lifts out completely if required or can be folded out the way) easily returns 60mpg I usually get around 65 (at present around 440 miles per £37 at 133p a litre) £30 a year road tax, cheap to service etc. There not the most sporty of drive but there not too bad, can be bought for a decent price and a really very practical.
