Don't know if its my imagination but my gear changes appear a bit more difficult. Anyone had anything similar and cures (oil change/level wrong/clutch)? and any ideas why the gearbox oil is automatic oil (assuming ATF stands for automatic transmission fluid)?.

I'll offer a guess while you wait for the experts but I might get flamed for it.

Some people have said that prior to the clutch master/slave cylinder going they have had a tough gearchange. Maybe coupled with a bit of a softish pedal feel.
Mine went but I didn't notice it different before but I had been away for a month.

Another possible?? might be the clutch fingers. I've heard that these are a regular contender.

No you wont get flamed.

When my clutch went, I struggled getting it into reverse. The next time i got in it, i couldn't select any gears. Some of the fhe fingers had broken.

Agreed.
Had both problems.
Fingers - Gear selection got gradually worse over a few weeks
Cylinder - Gear selection graunchy at times a few days before you couldn't select at all
