Not quite the same engine at the ST220. The block is the same but the top end is different.
From wiki:
The Jaguar AJ-V6 engine is a specialized version of Ford's Duratec 25/30 V6. One notable addition is the use of variable valve timing, a feature also shared with Mazda's version of the engine. It is available in 2.0 L, 2.5 L and 3.0 L displacements.
Jaguar's AJ-V6 engine has an aluminium engine block and aluminium DOHC cylinder heads. It uses SFI fuel injection, has 4 valves per cylinder with VVT, features fracture-split forged powder metal connecting rods and a one-piece cast camshaft and has direct-acting mechanical bucket (DAMB) tappets, these design aspects differentiating the AJ-V6 from the Ford and Mazda versions.
OP - have you tried Eurojag?

In desperate need of a sump for a 2001 3 litre.
Any ideas other than Jag?
I've got one paoloh. In fact I'm breaking a complete engine; it's got a worn crank, but apart from that it's perfect.Any ideas other than Jag?
Give me a bell, details on my website through my profile, and I'll organise something for you.
Regards,
James.

i knew there were a couple of differences between the jag AJ-V6 and the st220 Duratec 30 but wasnt quite sure what so thanks for the info, i find it quite interesting that the jag engine quoted output is 231bhp and although the st220 obviously suggests 220bhp it is well known for the engines to produce over 230bhp as standard, this leads me on to wonder if the jag AJ-V6 bhp quoted number is lower too. Am i right in saying the duratec 30 doesnt have VVT ?, if so i wonder what the benifit for including VVT was in the AJ-V6, as the duratec 30 is a fantastic engine out the box as we know. sorry bit off topic and a bit drunk, hope you get your sump sorted OP, stuFrom wiki:

I remember reading that they tried to make the X-Type V6 slightly more refined by adding the VVT.I guess that the ST220 is more of a 'Sporty' car than the 'Executive' themed X-Type, so refinement was not top priority for the Mondeo.
Yeah that makes sense plus i can see jaguar not wanting to install an 'out of the box' engine from ford without tweaking it a little to suit themselves, i`m currently trying to decide between an st220 and an x-type, the youngish lad (30 yrs old) part of me wants an st220 however i love the look of the x-type. When i come to buy in 3 months i`ll be looking at bottom dollar for both types so i reckon the x-type will win (maybe hehe), so i`ll be looking around may. stu

I've driven the ST220 and a manual 3.0L X type sport back to back. The Xtype was quicker by some margin, especially on acceleration. Ihe ST felt more sporty, but the Jag felt special in comparison. Both are great cars, ST values are holding up quite well, so a Jag will prove better value and cheaper to insure, go for the highest spec you can get and try to avoid the very early stuff. The X type in my opinion is a very underrated car. I'm looking to get one in the summer.pete5570 said:

Totally agree. The St is a sportier look but the Jag wins hands down for me.
The Jag tends to have more toys if you buy the 3 litre Sport too.

There is a common misconception that the Sport spec has more toys. The St is a sportier look but the Jag wins hands down for me.

In general, sport specification has fewer toys than the cheaper SE spec. Sport rarely has cruise control (saves loads of fuel!), rear parking sensors and full leather seats for example. The SE spec usually has all of these.
The best spec is “Sport premium” which has the SE toys and the de-chromed finish, bigger wheels, 15% stiffer suspension of the Sport.
There are exceptions to these rules though, as some owners added expensive options when buying. Things like Cruise control are VERY difficult to retrofit.

One of the main considerations for the X-Type 3.0 vs ST220 is Permanent AWD vs FWD.In the snow, the AWD X-Type is absolutely superb!
I would happily have either car though to be honest.

That is not what I meant. In general, sport specification has fewer toys than the cheaper SE spec. Sport rarely has cruise control (saves loads of fuel!), rear parking sensors and full leather seats for example. The SE spec usually has all of these.

I meant that most 3 litre Sports have had toys added.
Nav, heated seats etc etc
