Painting onto zinc (yellow passivated ?steel) Preparation?

Have just bought some new HD trailing arms for my Defender and they have a Zinc coating on them (yellow passivate I think its called), but I dont like the look and want to paint over it. So any suggestions of what to do and use fellas? I know painting onto zinc isnt straightforward and needs washing with..??
