Got through the MOT fine a couple of weeks ago then at the weekend the lever suddenly can be pulled almost vertical and even then the brake only works a little bit.
Can the adjuster have slipped? and if so where is it and do I need a paedophiles fingers to get in and fix it?

All clues and suggestions welcome - I live on a hill!

If there was no warning, could the outer have come out from the clamp. Just behind the lever under the trim and a sod to get to. Or the outer has come adrift at the calipers?

Or a pad could have dropped out .. I'm sure an inspection will reveal the problem..

I had a pad on the Tsmin where the friction material sheared off the steel backing....

Just superglued it back on, it was fine...

Check the handbrake lever itself is properly secure. When I got my wedge, one of the mounting bolts was loose, and eventually came undone. This had the same effect as yours.

Can they "drop out"? The h/b caliper on my 390 is at the top of the disc with the pads uppermost. Having said that, the cause of my handbrake not working efficiently was a missing pad - Streaky

Jaguar XJ6. Can be quite expensive, around £25 a set I believe.

Thanks guys
are they special "handbrake" pads or just the usual rear xj6 pads?

The handbrake pads are seperate to the main brake pads. It's the standard XJ6 setup.
