We had to have a new central heating boiler installed and in doing so the engineer has run a cable between the kitchen and airing cupboard via the shortest route, through the bathroom actually passing under the bath. A couple of feet of it is visible, fastened to the skirting before disappearing back inside the wall.

Any idea if this is acceptable practice. At first glance I thought it was dodgy to mix electric and water but maybe it's OK in its sheave. There aren't any breaks or terminations between the boiler and the control box in the airing cupboard. Any idea what the regulations are before I consider moaning at the engineer?

If it's anywhere, it's in there. Part P of the building regs, electrical safety.

It is difficult to say without being able to see it. Can you post any photos? Running cable under a bath is not a breach of the wiring regs in itself.

Work in bathrooms is notifiable under the building regs, however, the installer may be able to self certify depending on his accreditation. Did you get any certification from the installer for the electrical works?

Installed in mini trunking, it would be acceptable visually and as a means to protect the cable, but clipped to a skirting, yeah shoddy.... best get the guy back to correct the shortcomings....

Its not 'best practice' and may fall under notifiable works as its in a bathroom, has it any mechanical protection?

If you are not happy give the chap who did the work a quick call and explain your concerns and judge the response, in the meantime look up notifiable electrical works and the current regs online for a guide.
