Got a bit of a problem with my spare key for the MR2. Needed to use the spare today for the first time since having bought the car. When I press the button on the fob the red light flashes but the car does not unlock. I tried a few times but nothing so in the end just unlocked it manually with the key. However this set the alarm off, I can start the car with the spare key but the alarm does not stop.
Any idea how I get my key fob to talk to the car?
The fob is a standard Toyota fob and has RTT/D/X1123 on the back of it.

Black oval remote with 2 black buttons?

If so, remove the little screw on the back of the remote and prise the two halves of the remote apart by inserting a small flat screw driver where the key chain disappears into the remote. Now you should have the batteries in the back portion and the button son the other.

Go out to you car with the portion of the remote with the buttons on and standing by the passenger door hold down both buttons, simultaneously for 12 seconds then release them.

Refit the back cover and press the top button twice. (ETA, don't forget to fit loop the key chain back in).

It should now arm and disarm the alarm.

Tried that but does not seem to work. I took the fob apart took out half the section and kept hold of both buttons for about 12 seconds then pressed the top one twice?

It had been many years since I had to reprogram one of these, try the same sequence but press the other button twice.

This used to work in most cases, but if it didn't then it was a job for one of the workshop guys.

Just to say I had both key fobs not working on my MR2. Car was locked with the alarm set. Didn't panic but searched piston heads and followed the above instructions. Both now working with new batteries! Thanks for the excellent advice.

If you can't get it to pair by changing the battery and resyncing, then this method should work.
