Basicly myself and a couple of friends are planning on a road trip before le mans in my new Chim I get next week and an one or 2 other cars

Main things to include are

Ferry to Bilbao
Barcelona
Milau Viaduct
Nice/Monte Carlo
and most important stelvio and surrounding areas

now we have travelled round France and Italy before and probably have a rough idea on where to go, but the rest I have no idea about, so do any of you guys have any places to recommend either visiting, staying or roads that MUST be driven?

oh and after my constant researching I think a trip to Picos de Europa on the 1st day will probably be needed after looking at the roads and scenery!

I did a very similar trip last year.

We did - Bilbao, over the Pyrenees (via some excellent passes, including Tour de France routes such as Col du Tormelat), Toulouse, Mt Ventoux, Millau, Monaco, Modena (Ferrari, Lamborghini and Pagani), Lake Iseo, Stelvio, a number of Swiss passes (too many to mention, but most Swiss passes are excellent!), Mulhouse (Bugatti museum), Rheims, Calais.

Sounds like a great trip. As far as mountain passes go, I would recommend the area around the Gotthard (Nufenen/Grimsel/Furka). If you avoid the busy days and times the driving in this area is great. If you take the 19 from Andermatt to Flims Laax you'll end up near Chur. From there on you can drive to Davos along the mountain roads. In the Davos area there are deserted driving roads in abundance.

Personally, I found the Stelvio disappointing as a driving road. The south side is busy and not that exiting the north side -which is the one everyone comes for- is VERY busy, mostly 1st or 2nd gear turns and you have to pray that you don't end up trailing a coach. The road itself is an impressive piece of engineering/road building and the scenery is fantastic. If you go for the driving, be there very early and make sure your fan is working :-) .
