Hi folks,

I was looking into getting a 42 inch plasma and had pretty much settled on the ubiquitous Panasonic TX-P42G20.

I was going to pop down to John Lewis today and do the deed, but have discovered that is appears to be discontinued pending the G30 (annoying because I don't want to pay a premium for a new model - does seem a bit dense to stop doing the G20 when the G30 isn't available).

Anyway, did a bit of measuring - sofa is about 14 feet from the wall so I think a 42" may be a bit on the small side, so considering a 46 or 50.

Does this sound about right, and what's my best option for one? Ideally would like a TX-P46/50G20 from John Lewis or somebody who does delivery with a 5 year warranty (a must IMHO).

Am I also right in that I am st out of luck and am going to have to wait 6 months now until the new model comes down in price a bit?

Always buy two screen sizes bigger than you think you'll need, as you will grow into and become accustomed to the size very quickly.

I went from a 43'' Pioneer 434 to a 50'' Kuro but I wish I had bought the 60'' Kuro as the 50'' is now far too small. frown

yes My 42" seemed huge when we got it last year... I'm currently sat about 11 feet from it and it feels more than adequate for general TV, but I wish it was a 50" or maybe even more when I'm watching a decent blu ray!

Plenty of sellers of 50G20s via Google, with in-store purchase Panny 5 year warranty, who'll deliver.
The offer from Panny though, might have ended today - 31/1/11, so you'd need to opt for JL, assuming they have any.

Have a chat with E31Shrew and derestrictor/tdms, see what they can sort out for a PH'er.

Dropped in to JL today and they had P50S20s but no G20s. AFAICR it's the same TV but without the Freesat tuner.
