Hi,
It’s been a while but I started putting a couple of things right on my 350i wedge ready for the mot.
I’ve been looking at the A&R Power amp 8 Cylinder Ignition spark amplifer made by RPI and was wondering if anyone has one on their car and do you noticed any improvement, is it worth buying one?

Apart from the standard ignition amplifier dying due to age, I'm not aware that the igntion system is an issue until you get into the realms of serious tuning... so maybe not worth bothering?

I can't say whether the RPI ignition amp by itself makes a difference as I fitted mine at the same time as a new distributor and leads. the overall effect though was hydrocarbons went from 'through the roof' to normal. it pulled so much better and the fuel consumption on a run was much better. Any improvement in spark intensity has to be a good thing I suppose but unless you have a problem with the existing set-up that you know of, difficult to say if you would notice the difference.

Just a thought

Thanks for the replies,

Something that was joked about at the last mot was the un burnt fuel in the emissions, i was hoping this amp would help with this. lol

My hydro-carbons or unburnt fuel were 1500, hence the work I did, which cured the problem straight off. My MOT guy had kittens when I first took it in. In the enclosed MOT area it was so strong at tickover it made your eyes run! lol

If you do replace the standard amp make sure you use heat-sink compuund under it - or it'll go wrong again!
