Currently pondering a Mondeo as my next company motor, and I'm trying to work out which options are worth speccing. I like the heated seats that my current car has, as they provide instant heat before the engine has warmed up. Lovely on a cold morning when the engine takes forever to warm up!

Ford don't seem to offer a simple heated seat though; instead they charge £450(!) for something called Variable Climate seats, which both warm and cool the posterior. Are these Variable Climate seats heated electrically (i.e. press a button for instant arse-warming action) or do they use the engine heat, and hence are utterly useless until the engine has been running long enough to warm up?

There is a 5 level heat setting, which will heat up like you are used to.

1 for toasty, 5 for ring burn.
