Posted yesterday without a plea for help in the title and no responses - so I'm going to try again!

All, Need a little help and advice.

I have a garage with a flexible metal roller-door (Pic)

The door is coloured on one side and bare metal (aluminium?) on the other. Has anyone successfully painted (or know if it is possible to paint) this kind of roller door? If so, what kind of paint would need to be used in order for it not to crack or peel off?

Thanks for your advice! thumbup

Any good quality oil-based paint should be up to the job. A light rubdown with a medium/fine glass-paper, wash down with sugar-soap and, away you go.

Agree with Laurel Green - you can also get "Garage Door" paint if you're unsure about other gloss suitability. Not sure how it's different (maybe more flexible to accommodate the metal expanding/contracting?)

Cool - thanks for the advice both.

Might look into the 'Garage Door' paint option!

can I suggest spraying it? You will get a thinner coat and less chance of cracking.

Hmmm - Interesting suggestion. Might throw up some logistical issues I suppose but worth considering.

Cheers!

Cheers for the suggestion but that's starting to sound a little complicated!

Will be painting the garage door (plus house external doors to match) for a house sale. I obviously don't want to do a shoddy job, but equally I don't want there to be a lot of cost or aggro involved in doing it!

Currently the 'Garage Door' paint option seems like the most straightforward.

Painted my rather tatty garage door with Dulux Weathershield for metal. Good rub down and cleaned off then straight on with the weathershield. Stayed perfect for the three years the door survived.

The mechanism finally broke and I got a new one but the paint job was still excellent.

I recently painted a similar metal garage door using 2 coats of Dulux Trade Weathershield, applying each coat with a mini foam roller, then brushing before same has dried.

It would be cool if these worked on a roller door...
