I am on a course for 2 days up in Guildford from tomorrow, I plan leaving Titchfield at about 7.15/7.30am are the road works still a nightmare at Hindhead - I was hoping to get to Guildford in an hour or so – do I need to allow more time

On your way to Hindhead, you'll drive past a cafe and a Mercedes garage (on your right). At this point you'll typically start to queue. You'll see a turn off to the left which loops around and back under the A3. If you take this turn off, then turn around in the junction just before you go back under the A3, you can be really cheeky and drive parallel to all of the queuing traffic (they'll be on your right separated by a 6" wooden fence), and come out further up at a round about. Straight over here and you're on to the lights.

Won't make life and death difference, but when you see people turning off, that is where they are going!

Couple of times a week I have to work in just before Hindhead at Greyshott, yes it's pretty dire still as i have to get in the queue! I aim to get there about 8am, and need to leave between 7am to 10 past leaving from hedge end. Not sure how bad it is to get past the traffic lights there, but it looks pretty slow So if you were going through onto Guildford, i'd leave earlier than what you were saying by half an hour, or take a different route, A31 hogs back perhaps?
Hope that helps!

When I was doing solid weeks commuting to London for training, I hit Hindhead ~7am if not slightly before and I still had to queue, but no where near as badly as 8:30ish.
Unless you go the back ways around it, it'll always be a slow one.

It has been a long time. I still need to borrow that sound meter! Reading up on how to set up my new home theatre subwoofer, it recommends a sound meter, jogged my memory. I can't remember why I wanted to borrow it in the first place though? Car dB maybe?

I'm good anyhow, you? I'm still waiting for the day I don't have to scrap ice off my car and don't free my arse off driving to work.

Cut across on the 272 to Midhurst , turn left , up through Haselmere , stopping at Costa on the high street for a cafine fix , You'll rejoin the A3 above hindhead leaving you 6-7 miles to Guildford .

See people sneek off and do a U turn to skip some of the traffic?

Its a bit late for the OP but this may help someone else.

Come off A3 at first junction after Liphook r/bout for Bordon, follow A325 right through to Wrecclesham, right on to A31 at Farnham and follow to Guildford where you join the A3 again.

Or through Liphook, Haslemere, Brook, up to Milford and then back on to the A3.
