Chaps,

If on your Cerbera travels you should hear of the TVR baby seat for sale, please can you let me know?

All being well I should be back in a Cerbera soon and I'd like the little one to be able to join in.

DT

PS Or the Recaro job that's supposed to fit

I put a 'wanted' up a while ago and got no response, still looking.

There are some seats that fit the Cerbera, but you need the bar and seat extender otherwise they pivot on the edge of the seat. We also find that with the seat in the back (We have a Britax one) that the passenger seat has to go so far forward that anybody in the front has their nose right up against the windscreen, no good for any long distance journeys.

Also worth noting that the guys at Halfords said they weren't happy with the Recaro Start (or any other seat they sold) going in the back of a Cerb as the edges of the seat were touching the car where they shouldn't be, making it unsafe, apparently. I guess it's a case of backside covering though.

Finally, when you get a booster, I'd be a bit worried about the front seatbelt mount, which is pretty much level with where your little one's head will be, not something you'd want in an accident, so I'd think about some padding for that too.

I'd think that there is lots of butt covering going on here "if it's not on our recommended list, then computer says NO".

In my experience, the Recaro Start seat fits reasonably well in the back seat behind the passenger seat, and with the passenger seat fully forward there is room for an average size adult to sit comfortably.

The Recaro Start Impact Cushion is a good option to keep slightly older / larger children in position in the rear bucket seats without trying to fit a booster cushion - and it directs the seatbelt away from their necks......

However, the position of the seat belt mounting bolt is more of an issue once the child grows out of the Recaro (or whatever) seat, or if you want to sit a child behind the driver (I'm 6' tall therefore not much leg room behind me - can't fit the Recaro and kiddies legs in there). It's just at the right position to clout their heads.... as other Cerb parent drivers have found out (ouch) when their beloved offsprings heads make contact when avoiding potholes etc.....

I am still trying to work with someone to get a prototype cover or protection for this.....

No that is the second edition, I've not tried one my self but it has been said on here more than once they do not fit. You have to look out on eBay for a good mk1 they fit well.

When I've put the cerb back together I'm going to keep the base of the rear seat out & make platform to go in it's place (that can be easily swapped back if needed) to put the Recaro on so it's firmer & sits higher up which will move it back a bit more & help the little fella see out more! Also those support bars make a right mess of the carpet.

Nothing to add other than a thumbs up for Recaro, very very well constructed seats.

Looking at the eBay Start seats Gazzab has posted up - these look like the Mark I or II seats I have. These fit the Cerbera back seat just fine. The first has a truely HIDEOUS set of covers..... no wonder just £20 !!1 biggrin However you can buy replacement cover sets for them (need to make sure that they are from the same model, mind, as it has changed shape slightly over the years).

We only have two children, but have 5 Recaro Start seats (in various cars.... don't ask... can't be bothered to keep removing them) and they are first class build quality. They have a metal / alloy chassis - not the usual plastic and moulded foam crap other seats seem to be made of. I was so impressed with the build quality and comfort of the Recaro Start immediately threw out all our other ones.....

The ones in the ebay links Gazzb posted all look (at a quick glance on my phone) like the 'MK1' versions that will fit. The seats have a massive range of adjustment in them in all directions, so can look quite different. The easiest way to spot the difference is in the side "wings" / supports, the MK1s have smaller more triangular wings where as the later ones have much bigger rectangular ones.
If you have a baby don’t forget to find one that comes with the impact cushion, they need those when they are small. I just got the first I could find that was good then spent ages looking for an impact cushion to go with it.

If you look closely at my photo, you'll see an extra smaller black cushion sitting on top of the black/silver main seat cushion, this gives additional padding to the base and sides when little. Our little'un needed it until around 16 month old, then I removed it.

Click this That is one, I can take a pic as well tonight if you like, but that should do you?

You can even see the diagram on it of how to thread the seatbelt though it.

As someone else said they are very good when your little one goes to sleep, they stop their heads floping about.

Not necessarily it depends on your child’s age, the seat is really for older children. When I first got it my 14year old niece had a go in it as she wanted to try out the built in speakers, she is slim but tall, she fitted in very well & found it very comfy, it still has one notch left on the height adjuster. She thought the sound quality was very good too!

So as it can accommodated her it is wider than the usual seats for toddlers, as you can see from that pic of the impact cushion it comes down round there legs at the sides to take up that extra space. The main reason for it thought I think is that the seat uses the cars seat belts so if you have a crash there is only the one vertical (shoulder to lap) belt, where as the ones designed only for toddlers have the four point harness type belts that hold them much better. So the impact cushion does just what it’s name suggests & spreads the area of impact from the seat belt over more of your child’s body in a crash. Also if they are very short the normal cars cross belt can come very close to their neck.
My little lad is 14months old now & quite tall for age so I don’t bother with the cushion for just pottering about at 30MPH, but if I’m planning on going any faster I put it in.
