Following on from the hilarity expressed over the 'Green st' on the photo of your dinner thread. Would anyone care to enlighten me as to what exactly this 'Green st' is for? I bloody hate vegetables, and only eat them on sufferance, I have to force myself, and add loads of seasoning, butter and maybe Mayo to make them palatable. And that's just the least 'horrible' of the vegetables, most of them are plain foul yuck

And don't even get me started on salad. If I want/need vitamins, there are pills, much nicer, simpler and easier than force feeding yourself 'Green st' against your gag reflex simply because it's good for you.

So folks, pray do tell, what is it about this 'Green st', and what is it that you like about it? hehe

How can you not like veggies?

I would quite happily just have a big bowl of roast veggies (peppers, courgette, red onion, mushrooms and garlic) for my tea. Or carrots, parsnips, and shallots, or, or, or lick

Dont particularly mind vegetables. However they were taking up space on that plate that was for meat or chips.

If you don't eat veggies I hate to think what your toilet habits are like. You probably haven't taken a dump in about 3 weeks...

For a week or two i could just eat a pound of meat each meal, but think would
get bored. Half pound of meat with half pound of roast spud, done in duck/goose fat, etc etc, has to be a winner.

Mainly 'invisible poos' the best kind. You hear it hit the water, but when you turn and look, there's nothing in the bowl, and when you wipe, the paper is clean too. I'm quite regular thanks.

I love veg. Including salad yum

A few years ago I would hardly touch it, until I changed my eating habits to save cash (did more home cooking). Now almost every meal I have contains masses of veg. I couldn't do without meat though, that would be just wrong smile

Veg adds colour to a meal. If it was all beige I just wouldn't bother with most of it.

Veg cooked properly can be as interesting as "meat" but it does need to be seasoned and cooked properly. Too many people chuck it in the steamer or a pan of boiling water and hope for the best.

Same here, as long as it has a big slab of meat with it.

completely 100% agree. for me, the 'why would i eat that st' list is:

boiled carrot
swede
cauli
broccoli
green beans [or whatever their proper name is]
boiled cabbage
sprouts
parsnips

i.e. all the st i hated as a kid and still do.

anything raw, salads, and most other veg are fine. stir fried carrot and cabbage are also passable.

Have you tried roasted parsnips with mustard and maple syrup? lick

And red cabbage is scrummy, and you can do funky stuff with the left over water. As for green beans...stick them in a curry, along with sweet potato and spinach.

(I have to stop now before I make myself hungry)

Or carrots and parsnips sliced lengthways, drizzled in olive oil and balsamic vinegar, seasoned and covered in fresh chopped rosemary and a splinkling of crushed fennel seeds. yumcloud9

That's roasted btw.

I love vegetables!

Not as an adjunct to the main dish, or something that you're guilted into eating because they're Good For You, or because the Starving In Africa would chew off an arm to get their hands on your soggy broccoli, but as an event in themselves.

Vegetable deniers, visit Amazon for Yotam Ottolenghi's compendium of vegetable dishes (for the non-vegetarian), 'Plenty', and just get it.
