Hi guys,

My Mk 1 has started to squeal, and I mean really squeal, not just on start up, but more or less continuously through 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears, only really stopping when you change up into 4th and 50-60.

The really weird thing is it seems to only do it with the lights on. Turn the lights off, and it shuts u pretty quickly.

Any thoughts on the cause?

Thanks

Alternator belt is slipping.

So just replace the belt?

Easy enough for someone with pretty basic mechanical knowledge to do with a few spanners?

Agreed - not done it on mine but should be pretty easy with a couple of spanners/socket set. May just need retensioning but might as well replace it.

Probably does just need adjusting but once they start to slip it usually means the belt is getting a bit old anyway.
