Help for a beginner

Good Morning PH photo people.

I recently somehow managed to break my point & click fuji camera.
I'd ideally like to get something a bit more sophisticated so i can take some nice pictures of my 3month old son.
My ability at the moment extends to putting a black & white filter on the photo's!
I'd ideally like a Digital SLR with the ability to be able to change lenses, yet i don't know if that will be feesable as i want to spend as little amount of money as possible.
I don't really want to buy brand new as they cost a 'blimmin fortune + i don't really have a clue what i'm looking for.
Anyone got anything going on the cheap? Or can anyone recommend anything as Ebay seems to be fairly steep..

i've got an entry level sony a200

having lots of fun with it - its great for the features it comes with - does what all the big names can do no probs

the standard lens that comes with it is pretty good too

price wise i think its the cheapest from all the major names entry levels.

go to talkphotography forums for the real camera nogheads they'll be able to give you some awesome advice.

but remember everyone will b plugging the company they use so you gotta seperate the wheat from the chaff and realise what will work for you.

Find a local camera shop (not a big chain if you can) and go in and see what second hand lenses and bodies they have, sometimes the ones near me (Reading / Wokingham) have some very good deals on second had stuff.

Or keep an eye on ebay for a bargain Canon / Nikon body or kit, some of the online camera shops also have secondhand stock listed and I'm sure others will remember where.

The Sony Alpha entry levels are a good range, I could recommend from my experience.

The budget really is as little as possible as i'm not too rich at the moment!
My brother has a 450D if that's any good?
