Tyres for stock wheels
Discussion
I collected my first MX5 on saturday which currently has the stock alloys on running 185/60/R14 tyres. It has Toyo CF1 on the front and Pirelli P6000 on the rear. Both are quite old with tread nearing the limit (especially on the rear). I've looked at tyres on blackcircles/ebay/camskill and there doesn't seem to be a great deal of choice. Ideally I'd like to stick with the standard alloys for now which are 6" wide(unless someone can offer me some nice ones? haha). I see alot of people are running T1-Rs but they are not available in my size.
Mine's always been on 205's (14", think 60 profile) - and they've been good although the rim won't take much bigger. (Yokohama S306)
It's a bit academic though, no one really seems to make this size anymore. I think a step up to 15" may be an idea, or can you get 195's, whcih are probably a better compromise anyway.

Job very much jobbed - excellent, great wear & grip. http://tyremen.myshopify.com/products/185-60r14-un...
In 185/60/14 options are a bit limited. I went for:

And I think they are on a par with the Goodyear F1 (GSD2).

You could get Falken 912's in 185/60R14 last time I looked.
I've been running these for quite some time now on my 205 GTi and think that they're very good, and absolutely excellent value for money. Wet and dry grip seems good, breakaway progressive, and they seem to last well too. I'd rate them atleast as good as Toyo T1-R and Goodyear Eagle F1's, and only slightly behind Michelin PE2's (but at less than half the cost)
Admittedly I've not tried them on an MX-5, but given both cars are a similar weight I've no reason to suspect that they won't be good.

finally got round to fitting PE2's on my car but will wait for a warm dry day before comparing them to the T1R's or F1's i had before. they are pretty stiff on the sidewall and very responsive but i don't really like the fact they are not symmetrical but also not directional...? it's not like it's a v-groove pattern but still
