Apparently according to the search function, there are no threads in this forum yet about this car.

I just got rid of my 2002 Mondeo (28mpg tops, £250 road tax, thousands in repairs) to get my IQ2. I had been pondering one for a while, and having now got it, I have to say it is perfect. I am so happy with it that it reminds me of how happy I was when I treated myself to my VXR a few years ago.

It's all about economy and being sensible, but with the bonus of quality and some nice features you wouldn't expect from a small car (you don't get these in the basic model). Free toad tax, ( I think rising to £20 a year at some point) and a claimed 60mpg (getting 45mpg on lots of short urban trips and stopping/starting). I managed to wangle into my deal the next 2 services free and it's first MOT free next year. That means in my 3 years of ownership (3 year PCP) I will service it only once, and spend a total of around £40 road tax. With the fact it is also new, and a Toyota, I have total piece of mind that this car is not going to let me down and bankrupt me, as the Mondeo did.

So, very very happy with the car. It drives fantastically for it's size, and the build/ride quality matches that of my daily work drive, a current BMW 530D. Very solid and well put together car. Highly recommend one. Only downside so far is boot space, they claim 3 adults and a suitcase which is accurate, but with more than 2 people in the car it gets a bit cramped. However space in the front is as abundant as any other car, so there is no feeling of being cramped with 2 people at all.

All that is left to do now is transfer my personal plate onto it...Some pics:

It's an IQ2, so has keyless entry / pushbutton start, electric folding mirrors, climate control, auto dimming rear mirror, front fogs, chromed wheels etc etc

Thanks for the write-up. Very tempted to get one of these for a relative currently driving an A Class.

I suppose you can get Auto boxes, but will they be like the Smart Four-Two auto-box is a question I dearly would like an answer to for that is the other car I am considering.

Not over keen on the wheels, but apart from that I like it!

Looks good.

I'll admit to not being the biggest fan of small cars...I wouldn't feel very safe on the motorway etc next to lorries and 4x4s.

That's the issue, one may not "feel" safe but do we hear of lot of accidents with Smart cars on the motorway?

Good point.

Perfect for whizzing around town though

I am hopefully picking mine up on thursday.
I went for a test drive and I used it on A roads and then went on the m4 to see how it coped and it was fine.
It sits at 80 with ease and you forget you are driving a small car.
It feels like a mini-Lexus with all the gizmos and mine just qualifies for 5 year warranty.

I've had an auto iQ2 for 2 years now. It's a CVT so whilst not perfect it is light years better than the smart's box (and I had 5 smarts). I find the iQ to be better than the smart in every area and once you've learnt how to get the best from the CVT it is fun to drive. It's not very quick to 60 but once wound up it will quite happily stay at 80+ leptons on the motorway. I find it far more relaxed than the smart on the motorway too - it's not as badly affected by crosswinds but being tall you do still notice them.

Some have had issues with an easily scratched/marked interior but I haven't noticed this at all, I do regularly coat the interior with 303 aerospace spray though. The blunt nose is susceptible to stone chips but apart from that I've had no issues at all with mine. I have however never got near the claimed 60+mpg - 50ish is the best I've seen but then I do rag it.

My mum has one, just like the OP's.

Not a bad wee car, the turning circle is awesome!

2 hehe

I've sat in the back of mine once for all of 5 miles and that was enough. The front seats and dash are staggered to free up room in the back but it is still small. Up front there is no issue - feels huge, like the smarts.

I forget what else the "2" comes with over standard but I think I summed it up above...

The turning circle is indeed awesome, I never thought of that, but you can turn on a sixpence. There is a good deal of room behind the passenger seat enabling an easy seatig of adult in the front and in the back, it is the room behind the drivers seat that is compromised slightly, due to the pedals.

I feel perfectly safe in it on the motorway, it is full of airbags and has a 5 star Ncap rating. This beats the zero airbags and zero Ncap rating on our Copen which not only was smaller and flimsier than the IQ but was also a convertible! Compared to that the IQ is a shark cage...

Had one as a courtesy car.

One of the most pointless and disapointingly built / finished cars I've ever driven.

Performance and handling are verging on non-existent, too.

The C1 and Aygo make the IQ look like an overpriced joke.

I actually wanted one in White, but seeing as I plan to only have it for 3 years I thought I would do black for a change as it is not my normal colour choice.

As for the Aygo and C1 - both of those drive and feel cheap. None of these cars have performance!!! Thats not the point of them. The IQ handles superbly for what it is, feels far better round the corners than my Mondeo did.

I quite like them, however I find the fuel consumption figure a bit dissapointing looking at the size of the car and engine.
As a comparison I have an 11 year old 1.3 Auto Toyota Yaris that is returning the same consumption figures in and around town. I thought things would have improved quite a bit in that time?
