Funny how you always remember your first car and reg number. --
1975 -- Hillman Imp Sport, 998cc, GGM 23D.
Great wee car you could do a lot to them, i fitted a set of Twin Nikki Carbs to it and brought top speed up to 94mph.
Bought for £50 and now worth around £2500.
1975 -was when i bought the car.

jonny.

I bought a blue rover 2000sc F reg auto which was an ex-plod mobil for £90 even though i was only fifteen,It still had the filler in the roof from the blue light,,The wiring was a mess as they took all their gubbings out and left the wire in..One day the lights started flashing on and off on their own..So i sold it to my mate and his step dad tried sorting out the lights..He was under the front of it and said try that but as we turned the ignition on it caught fire..He got a face full of water and we got a right rolicking..Mind you if he werent so chubby he could of got out in time..we still laugh about it now.

Had a 5 Turbo a little later, my first ever brand new car. Loved it and cherished it, wished I had kept it. When I sold it I think I under valued it. I had at least 30 phone calls and it was a race as to who arrived first and did the deal, 4 turned up within 5 minutes of each other, the first one there bought it instantly and the haggling stopped as soon as the others turned up and wanted to buy as well smile

A Simca 1100 van that my uncle gave me. Sadly it then took four months' salary to get roadworthy, in hindsight I don't know why my dad let me do it (although I did get a crash course in French bodywork).
My first actual car was a 1969 Mini estate, reg. number long since forgotten (ended in a G wink)but I only had it a few weeks before chopping it in for a Mk 3 Spitfire - I'd just turned 18 and needed something to help remove knickers from young ladies. Yeah right, like that ever happens rolleyeswink

JDT640K

1971 Hillman Avenger 1250DL in pale green.

57 miles on the clock. Brand new company car.

I was 19, and thrilled to bits. Few of my mates even owned cars, and those that did had old bangers.

I was ready to go bird-pulling. biggrin

Mk1 Cortina 1200. Blew it up, fitted s/h engine till 4.00am so I could go to work 20miles away. Worryingly, I had more bolts etc left over than is considered safe. That's what you get for working in the dark and no sleep!

Another Hillman Avenger here! GGJ 902N was a 1300DL in Caribbean blue. Bought in 1987 (when I was 16) off of my uncle for £170 and sold to a mate a year later for £400 (after much Isopon and a set of Halfords dog tooth seat covers!).

I'd sold my 1983 DT50MX (for £150) to get it - which was my first bike.

First car - Rover P4 2600. And I still have it.
Second car - Rover P5 3500. But it got torched so I sold it. Would still have it otherwise.
Third Car - Rover P6 3500S. Still got it.
Fourth Car - Rover P6 3500S. Ditto.

Then it's been wedges from there.... ;^)

And another Avenger! They must be the natural first car for Wedgers! laugh

Mine was BFN 948K a 72 1250 4 door bought for my 17th birthday. It was orange when I got it but with a fair bit of rust. Spent the next 6 months rubbing down, treating, filling etc whilst still keeping it in everyday use. Eventually it had more grey primer than orange paint so I decided it needed smartening up. Couldn't afford a respray then unfortunately so hand painted it black!

I had a MKII, 2 door Escort 1.3 - even used to get the back end to step out biggrin

All good until a woman parked her Nissan Silvia Turbo on the passenger seat - so badly crumpled that the passenger door hit my left arm yikes
