Inspired by DR-GN's recent 1/32 Matchbox build I thought I'd get back into building aircraft. It's the Tamiya 1/48 Bf109E 4/7 Trop kit built as Bf109E-7/N/Trop of 2/JG27 "Afrika" - Black 1 - using the decals from the Hasegawa kit and an Aires resin cockpit. I switched to building 1/43 and 1/24 cars (with the odd AFV) in my mid teens (I'm now 42) so getting back into things with wings has been quite good fun. I've tried most of the current techniques whether good or bad so pre-shading, oil paint pin washes, Tamiya "eye shadow" etc and the last flat coats were tinted as the decals looked a bit fresh and not very African sun bleached. Pics aren't the best as artificial light was playing havoc with the camera.

You're not going to get much better than that. I wish my mottling had come out as well (at all in fact!).

Congratulations on a great model.

BTW I'm getting a couple of display cases delivered this week (one for the '109) I'll post a pic when they arrive.

I'm not a Me109 fan, but you have done a wonderful job, the paintwork is excellent.

Thanks for the comments everyone, it was lots of fun and the end result far outweighs the odd little hiccup or doubt I had during the build. I'll be interested to see those cases dr_gn, I'm already wondering how to protect the Trop and whether to pander to my AFV side and add a Kubelwagen or Steyr truck to the mix.
