hi got a e46 my front rim on passengers side seems to be slightly buckled, just wondering if it can be repaired at all, because the rims cost me 750 quid, and it would be an awful shame to have to get rid of them, also the buckle doesnt seem to affect the cars handling/steering so just wondering if it really is a big prob, i took it to the garage yesterday and they put the wheel on the alingnment type thing, and it apperared to be a bit wobbly. so just wondering if buckles can be repaired, and does anyone know of anyone in london who does it?
cheers

p.s was just wondering is it worth putting them on the back of the car as a temporaryfix, but then again it may not be a good idea because its a RWD, but at the same time, the car steers from the front, grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi Chan,

Depends on how 'bad' the buckle is. Are the wheels genuine BMW wheels? or are they Replica ones?

Depending on how bad the buckle is, they can be repaired, however any place that will do the work will add a caveat that they'll try as best they can and also can't guarantee perfect roundness again. Also, depending on the wheel itself, it's entirely possible it could get destroyed during the process - this is becuase the wheel will be heated up. Usually, it'll be fine, however, as to the reason I was asking if they're replica's - lower quality alloy wheels (replicas!) and their metal alloy constitution mean they can contain air pockets that are 'quite large' (when you get down to the molecular level, and upon heating they can expand and cause the alloy to 'crack'

Alloy wheels that are made using higher and better grades of manufacture, have much less of those air pockets due to their manufacturing process and are therefore much less likely to crack when heated etc.

It's one of those things, so it's up to you if you want to take the risk really. I have some Genuine Hartge wheels which needed doing and I was told of the caveats above - as I know these wheels are made using a much better manufacturing process, I deemed the risk ok to take. Had they been replica's (which I'll never have!) I'd have thought long and hard about it.

Cheers, Dennis!
