Hi there, new to this forum!

Im looking to buy a car in the next while with a budget of £5000 (can stretch more if its worth it) with approx 200bhp+.

Not really wanting a hatchback (pulsar ect) prefer a 4 or 5 seat coupe or saloon.

Any ideas?

200SX, practical and fairly tuneable

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2458491.htm

Quite a few nice Celica GT4s in that budget

Low mileage GTO with all extras, looks rather nice

Accord type R? Nissan 300zx (if you canfind one that's not been ruined), Toyota Soarer, Prelude, maybe even an FTO?

yeah 4 or 5 generally if you can get a six under 5k then theres something wrong with it, but even a 4, with our hks servicing packs, and tuning kits you can get it running well in todays scene

Another vote for the 200SX. £5000 should get you a good one.

Im surprised that no one has suggested an Impreza.

Even the boggo standard 'soft' uk versions have over 200bhp and 5.3sec 0-60. For the same price that you'd pay for an Evo of any year, you will net a newer car as they are more plentiful. And servicing will be cheaper as the EVO4 GSR onwards will require a diff re-torque every 4.5kmiles. (Its not something you can easily do yourself, unless you have very small hands).

Best advice though is drive both over a range of different surfaces including lumpy potholes and motorway.

Newage Impreza WRX PPP. Cheap to run, 4 seats, easy to mod, great fun. For your money you will also get a newer car (04-05)...

Forget the newage scoobs, lardy in weight and nowhere near as good to drive as a classic, imports will be few and far between quality wise, but they are out there to be found, and you won't regret it, plus you'll have some cash left to play with it a bit.

I'd say newage Impreza WRX or Accord Type R if you want a nippy, usable saloon. You should be able to get a fair bit of car for that money.

At £5000, you could buy a good example of almost any Japanese performance car with a few years on it, but still in excellent condition, bar perhaps Nissan 350/370Zs and Skylines. It just depends on what takes your fancy, but I think I could be tempted by a Celica, they look incredible. That one up there looks like a really, really nice one, if I had the cash I'd have it myself!

It's a fair cop. There is an other on the owners club for £3500 with a forged engine so you can get a nice for 5 bags of sand.

Good choice though I've always thought the Skyline saloons good buys but many are auto's limiting tuning down the road. Mind you £5k will buy a very very nice R33 GTST nowadays

What about the RX-8? 231bhp, rwd, 4 door coupe, and these days £5k gets you a nice one.

There seems to be a lot of FUD about, but find a looked after one and you'll likely be fine. They are hard on the go juice tho.

Still, they look like excellent value to me.
