After reading the other post about leaving the UK to buy a watch I decided to call Hettich in Jersey for a price on a Rolex Deep Sea. I'm saving for one and pretty much ready to buy. I don't actually know what the 'normal' UK price is or should be.

I've read here that I should be looking to pay £5k or less. Is this correct?

I excitedly called Hettich expecting this to be considerably less due to 3% tax and not 20% VAT on the mainland. I was a bit surprised to learn that the price is £5670. I suggested that this was more than I was willing to pay and after another chat with management I was told that I could have 5% discount meaning price of £5386.50

Sorry to ask but I'm really confused and obviously want the best deal possible!

And if anyone happens to be interested they have one in stock.

I think that was my point on the other thread, by the time you import it, it's not worth it. I have a Deepsea and bought it in the UK for a very good price.

Assuming you are in the UK and are using sterling have a good look around.

Saying the I did get a bargain Hamilton last year from the US, but it was second hand.

Why not look a t pre-loved one? No tax and no loss of depreciation.
Watches are like cars, you lose shedloads on a new one and there are some lovely cheaper ones out there.
The last one sold for £4550 on TZ-UK

^^^^^^^^^^This

You can still negotiate a bit on the price too as they often still allow the IFC

That's not even the import price! Thats the buy from the shop and wear it home price! I expected far less and then to have to be sly and post the box home!

Mr E Driver

I don't want to sound snobby but my first rolex has to be bought new. It just 'feels' right. My pepsi GMT will be my 2nd one eventually and be 2nd hand biggrin

Ok I'm not sure why the need for the swearing confused

I didn't know Goldsmith's did 0% and that is RIGHT up my street. I have the cash but better in my pocket than theirs!! TBH I didn't think there was more than one rolex dealer in Aberdeen so thanks for pointing this out. I'm going to have a look tomorrow smile

When I bought my Sub in aberdeen, I think I got it here:

http://www.jamieson-carry.com/watches.htm

At the time (3.5 years ago now) they didn't do Rolex anywhere else, I don't think.

I have a DeepSea - Paid about 5k for it, which seems to be about the going rate for a good new-ish 2nd hand one.

Yeah they are the only dealers.

I went to Goldsmith's but they don't do rolex in the store. They have bought over 2 other companies and have reduced the dealers. The shops are Mappin and Webb and the swiss watch shop. Or somthing similar to those names!!

Where did you find the deepsea then?

I have been offered a brand new one for £5650 from a dealer.

You were offered one on the 3rd of February for £5386.50, so in just over a month of searching you are £236.50 worse off.
And I don't know what I'm talking about but paid significantly less than that for mine.
