Help changing brake pads
Discussion
Can anyone help me put on new brake pads? I want to learn how to do it, and I don't know anyone in the Sheffield.
So over to pistonheads. Obviously I'd pay for your time, and throw in a crateof your choice as a thanks.
I'll provide the brake pads, but I don't have the tools.
The car's a Ford Fiesta Zetec-S 1.6 2000 model.
So can anyone help? Always nice to meet new PH'ers as well.

Another doncaster guy here. I'm no mechanic but have always changed my own brake pads and have most tools. Should take less than an hour if you want to drive over some time.
Its pretty easy
IIRC ford sometimes use tools not comonly found like 7mm hex head bolts for brakes

I've no idea on a zetec, but on some rear callipers you cannot simply push the pistons back in. They need to be rotated and pushed. If you force them in you knacker them - I speak from expensive personal experience when I did this on my first car years ago.
You tube will probably have some how too guides. Typically though it's simply a case (if the hoses are long enough) of undoing one set of bolts, hinging the calliper upwards and swapping the worn pads for the new ones. Remember to copper slip the pad backs and to push the calliper pistons back in. Never ever apply the brakes with the pads out - you'll pop the pistons out.
