Rough running, down on economy, laboured start with cloud of smoke particularly if cold

Been told its the injectors, and parts alone will be about £720, fitting could take it over the grand. Car is worth about that.

Car has never as yet failed to start and no weird dashboard warning lights.

Any ideas of a cheaper solution?

Thanks

You can fit them yourself but unless you have any way of programming them it will run as badly as it does now,try getting them reprogrammed first.
you might be surprised how much difference this can make.

As I recall I paid somewhere in the region of £700 to £800 for four injectors fitted and "coded" to the car from a very reputable diesel specialist locally. I thought that was expensive!!

well i have been told by two separate garages that re-programming will likely do nothing, one said this only works if the dash warning light is on; which it isn't

think i will speak to a specialist injection place

It dosnt work like that, those injectors can run quite a way out before even flagging a fault, which in itself dosnt just automatically turn on the eml.
just because there is no light on it dosn`t mean there isn`t any faults,in fact there are thousands of cars driving round with faults logged in the ecu but with no eml lit.
Im not saying your injectors arent shot but if they were that knackered then surely the eml would be lit?
some of the mondeo`s I tried worked a treat, some didnt and hardly any of those those had lights on but a few did have faults.
Bearing in mind you have asked how to save money does it not seem prudent to get someone to reprogramme them first?
I fitted some wrongly supplied injectors to a toyota d4d avensis a little while back but couldnt programme them because they werent the right ones.
It ran quite well, but not properly and had a dreadful flat spot/vibration at @3k rpm.
no light no faults but it would have shortened the engines life expectancy considerably.
It takes 10/15 minutes and any garage with half decent diagnostics will be able to do it.
you could get them all reprogrammed for probably less than quarter the price of one new one.
An old saying goes: The person saying it cant be done is often interrupted by the sound of someone else doing it.

great, well i was thinking it would be worth a try but not based on anything... worth taking to a diesel injection specialist or would anyone be able to do this?
