Even the 'standard' Veyron is sub-6 to 100, no?

The Veyron can do 0-100mph in 5.5 seconds.

Don't all the videos show the old F1 consistently beating the Veyron off the line upto x speed (not sure what, somewhere around the 110mph Mark), before the Veyrons power overwhelms the F1?

So these aren't independent figures?

McLaren sure are doing all they can to keep the interest high.

It doesn't surprise me the MacF1 is faster to 100 than the Bug. The Mac weighs 1 Ton, the Bug considerably more and lets face it, manufacturers frequently big up their numbers over and above the believable, HP/0-60/Kerb weight etc

All of those videos are contrived to produce a good race. The timed tests by Autocar and Evo magazine figured the Veyron faster than the F1 at every speed increment. Its quicker off the line and to 30mph, then the gap just gets bigger.

Indeed, that 4 wheel drive must count for something.

Would be very surprised if the new Mclaren could beat the old F1 in a straight line though.

That's top gear though.

No way is an F1 faster than a Veyron to 100.

Top Gear weren't using the Launch Control for that feature.

If you let the Veyron drive itself, it is quicker. Apparently, it's a bit more tricky to get off the line manually.

In the evo test of Veyron and GT-R they said the same thing - the launch control was not working (because of high temps I believe the article said) and when they floored it it bogged done for a second before getting going - this is not the case when launch control is used.

Top gear is all about entertainment with not that much fact.

Isn't this the mid-range McLaren and there will be a top of the range one along next?

I wouldn't. Launch control, DSG gearbox, and no doubt grippier tyres.

Why are people comparing the new McLaren with a Veyron?

It competes with the 458 not a car costing over 5 times the price.
