Suggestions for a week abroad sometime early/late summer?
Discussion
We've been to Chamonix the past couple of years when we wanted a short break in the middle of the year. Looking to try somewhere else this year.
Doesn't have to be France, although we do like the Alps so somewhere around there might be nice, otherwise anything goes as long as it doesn't cost too much to rent an apartment and eat for a week or so.
I always rent a car wherever we go although in the evenings we'd prefer to be in walking distance of restaurants and bars.
Any suggestions?

Are you just a couple or is it a family thing??
With the Euro as it is currently I have found any of the main European countries cripplingly expensive jsut do do mundane things like eating.
If you are just a couple I would definitely take the opportunity to go somewhere a bit further afield and exotic as the difference in price once you take into account spending money is likely to be pretty negligible
We're more the mountain type than the beach or city type. Long walks up mountains, maybe some mountain biking or beginner rock climbing even.
It will just be me and my GF and as we don't have kids we can avoid the school holidays and pick the cheapest times to go abroad.
Further afield and more exotic locations are a possibility but then the flight costs and travelling times could be a lot higher just for a week's holiday.
It's not that expensive to fly to Geneva and rent a small car for a week, which is why the Alps has been attractive the last few years despite the Euro/£ rate being rubbish.
Of course, there is always the UK (she is particularly fond of the Lake District) but I'd rather get out of this country.
