Room lighting without sockets
Discussion
Chaps,
I wonder if any of you have any bright ideas for me.
In one room in our house we have a sofa against a wall, there are no power sockets on that wall but I would like a lamp next to the sofa to provide ambient room lighting (enough for reading etc).
There is a main pendant light but even dimmed it's right in your eyes. There are doorways either side of the sofa so no way of trailing an extension lead across from the sockets on the other side of the room.
I don't want to install a socket as that would involve knocking holes though to kitchen and more hassle than I need for an occassional light.
I've been looking for rechargeable lamps but struggle to find anything that is suitable as a room lamp (it needs to look half decent as well).
Any ideas?

can you get under the floor either in the room or upstairs?
failing that the joists for the ceiling/floor above will run in one direction, you may be able to take a cable through the ceiling to another pendant then put it on a remote controlled adapter

Thanks chaps - I like the electromagnet idea - the hum would be very relaxing!!
Can't do anything with either floor (well I could upstairs if I really wanted to but I don't) - I was hoping for a battery powered or rechargeable lamp but can't find anything nice.
We've left it with an uplighter lamp in another corner which is OK for now.
