Root canal filling

Had one in one of my upper teeth yesterday. Darn thing is still painful, on and off I'm getting neuralgia. If I carefully touch the tooth with another, it feels like nothing has been done, almost as bad as it was last week when I booked the job. I really wanted it taken out, but the dentist strongly recommended a filling due to the position of it and I went along with him.
Anyone know how long after such a job a tooth should still hurt? The whole of my upper jaw that side is really aching bad. Don't seem right to me, back at work Sun to Tues; if the thing is still playing up on Mon I'll call them and insist it comes out.

Root fillings can take a few weeks to really calm down, depending how painful they were beforehand.

I had one done that still felt a bit strange but not actually painful for over 9 months. Feels fine now but touching my upper lip above the tooth felt quite sore for ages.

No real pain with mine, sore for a couple of days but only really felt 'normal' after about 6 months.

Root canal surgery I reckon was invented by the Nazis. I had a dentist for a while who I think was from Brazil!!!. Any way I go in for a chipped tooth or a filling that had come out, and he would find at least on or two root canals to work on. Normally I wouldn't bother with anasthetic for a regular filling, but for root canal st I would take as much novacaine as they had on the shelf. Dribbled like George Best for hours after each session, but things normally recovered in a day or two.

Thanks guys - grin, grit what I have left of my teeth then, & bear it. As it was only done yesterday, maybe I'm being paranoid. It was a particularly nasty one, took him a long time to do. So it will probably take a few more days at least to calm down.

I always warn my patients that their tooth will be painful for a few days after RCT.

You're having the nerve amputated at the end of the tooth. Try amputating your arm and see how long it hurts for.

I've never had real any pain during or after root canal fillings but by the sounds of it I've been lucky.

Thanks Rich - not a whisky man myself, but a couple of 7.5% ciders gave me a reasonable night's sleep.
