I've got a 2003 (53) Boxster S in Midnight Blue, with Bose, Hard Top, 18" Carrera's and Sports Susp and 2,000 miles on the clock. It's also a UK car and i'm first owner.

Any ideas what 'd get for a private sale?? The car is as new but the Mrs is pregnant so may have to wave her goodbye (the car I mean).

At an OPC the car would fetch nigh on list (perhaps with a small discount - say £500). Their margin is about 6 - 7K.

If you offer to split the margin with your purchaser someone should "bite your hand off" to own it. However much more of the margin you decide you want to keep will reduce the number of potential purchasers.

So get your original order out. Take off half the OPCs margin and there's your "bargain" price. Pitch it above that to allow a little room for negotiation.

Warranty isn't an issue as the original Porsche warranty will still be good for fourteen months...

Of course - if you want to see quickly you could offer it at 2K above the trade-in value...

I dont think it will sell quite as easily privately as that.........we are talking quite a lot of money here .......I think you should offer the car as Don says at £2K above your higest trade bid, however remember that its unlikely your trade bidder will stand on his bid a month later, he will most certainly want to renegotiate the deal due to book drop etc in glasses guide. Remember something like 70% of Porsches bought from OPC s are financed in one way or another and you will be unable to offer this facility.
Good Luck.

But surely it makes sense to shop around for finance? I would wager you could always find a better deal than a dealer?? The fact that dealers provide finance wouldn't in itself attract me to them. But then I buy my cars using bog standard personal loans. It's cheaper in the longrun.

So what you are saying I guess is around £38k if I do well.

By the way the car is an absolute dream to drive the handling is the best of any car i've ever driven.

You have little to no chance of selling the car privately. Finance companies will not lend against a car in a private sale. The only alternative is for someone to have cash or a substantial personal loan (max is £25k so they would still need £13k in cash).

The problem is worsened by the fact that the pictures of the new Boxster are being shown in the press.

Your best bet is to find a reputable specialist or even your OPC and do a sale or return. A fixed margin should be negotiated at outset. So say the car sells for £37k you would get back £35k. Makes sure you tell them the least amount they are allowed to sell the car for. Its all a waiting game from there.

I sold my Boxster S through Pistonheads for around £30k to a private buyer, and I bought my next car for £38k from a private buyer, so it can be done....
Still, I would favour a SOR agreement with an OPC or a decent independent for peace of mind, even if you may end up with slightly less money.

I sold my Boxster S when it was 8 months old, also due to a new baby by the way?? I paid £42,800 for the car in July 2002 and sold it after 8 months for £35,500 it was on the market a while and I kept reducing the price, probably because of lack of cash buyers!

Thanks Guys,

I think i'll advertise it and see if I can get lucky. If not, i'll probably hang on to it given it's not going to depreciate too steeply after the first year.

Moral of the story is to think more that 1 month ahead when buying a car!!!

Hi,

Try the classifieds through pistonheads and findit.co.uk. You never know your luck. I've just bought a Boxster 'S' for 30k cash, with no loans or finance, so there people out there (specially better off than me....!!)

It's all about luck and timing....!! so don't get disheartened if it doesn't sell for a while. It doesn't always mean it's priced too high or a bad motor, just means the right person isn't looking yet.

Sell them both and get the real thing!

I sold (p/x'd) an 8 month old S fully loaded with eveything on it last June. I paid 44k and got 35.5k........gulp.

I tried to sell it via the web etc., but ran out of time. I had a load of test pilots and one interested party who came along three times and then did a Paul Daniels!

If you aim low you won't be let down!

Good luck anyway.
