Driving home with my daughter tonight she says the illuminated buttons in my car are red - they are amber/orange. I'm told only men can be colour blind, and, in any event, orange/red is not the typical colour blind mix up.

The buttons are most definitely orange (aircon, heated screen, heated seats buttons) and would not be red as red is typically reserved for more important buttons. She absolutely swears they're red.

What's going on?! Younger eyes (she's 13) seeing more of the red pigment in orange perhaps?

I also thought it was just men that can be colour blind. i heard it dates back from when we were hunters and actually night vision is better. Ive no idea how true this is though.

Solution is simple

Have 2 lights on, one red and one orange (e.g fog light and handbrake) on.

Ask her if the two lights are different? If she says no, then she has an eyesight problem. If she says yes, then she has a different "name" for orange (i.e. red biggrin).

Ah thanks, yeah, camera in the same place, 3-or-so images making sure nothing overlaps (for ease of editing), put them all together and cut away. It's about the only thing I can do in Photoshop hehe

Women can be colour blind too. 12% of men are, but it's about 2% of women.

Are red and orange two of the colours that might be confused?

Can be. It's not always red / green, that just happens to be the most common. I have problems between grey and pink, green light and white light, blue and lilac for instance.
